Why the Right Vacation Rental Is More Than a House
A lot of people are saying the vacation rental peak has passed. Some say the market’s saturated. They might be right — but I think they’re only half right. The truth is, it’s not about whether the market is full. It’s about whether your property stands out.
My wife and I are living this right now. We’re in the process of creating our own vacation rental — Magnolia Equestrian Retreat. Horses in the pasture, magnolia trees lining the drive, a screened porch where you can watch the sun drop behind the fence line. It’s not just a bed and four walls — it’s an experience we want guests to remember long after they’ve left.
That’s the same thing that makes a great fishing trip. I’ve run charters where the fish count didn’t matter nearly as much as the moments — a tarpon exploding out of the water, a kid grinning with a shark at the side of the boat, the way the whole day felt. Those are the stories people bring home and tell over and over again.
And here’s the opportunity most people miss — even in a “saturated” market, you can win if you create something worth talking about. You can buy a home that’s already been a vacation rental and give it a new identity, or you can take a property you already own and shift it into the short-term market if it’s in the right location.
That’s part of the value I bring to the table — not just finding you a property, but helping you see every angle it could work from. My wife and I are doing it ourselves through multiple investment avenues, learning firsthand what it takes to stand out.
A vacation rental isn’t just a property. Done right, it’s a story people pay to be part of — and if you build it well enough, they’ll want to come back and live it again.
